{"id":1430,"date":"2013-02-12T10:21:00","date_gmt":"2013-02-12T17:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/somatics.com\/wordpress\/somatology-the-physical-body-the-field-of-mind-memory-and-the-great-mystery\/"},"modified":"2018-06-04T08:49:19","modified_gmt":"2018-06-04T15:49:19","slug":"somatology-the-physical-body-the-field-of-mind-memory-and-the-great-mystery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.somatics.com\/wordpress\/somatology-the-physical-body-the-field-of-mind-memory-and-the-great-mystery\/","title":{"rendered":"SOMATOLOGY | The Physical Body, The Field of Mind, Memory and The Great Mystery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Though it may be taken to be otherwise,<br \/>\nwhat we call, &#8220;body&#8221;<br \/>\nis a resonant field<br \/>\nimbued with feeling (sentience)<br \/>\nthe property of occupying space<br \/>\nthe capability of movement,<br \/>\nand with the ability to move among other resonant fields<br \/>\nliving beings.<br \/>\nIt is what we mean by, &#8220;soma&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Our minds are not entirely our own,<br \/>\nbut resonate with the field of all minds<br \/>\nmodulate that field of thought and feeling<br \/>\nthrough interaction with memory and original activity<br \/>\nand reflect it back into the field of all minds<br \/>\ntransformed.<\/p>\n<p>What we call, &#8220;body&#8221;<br \/>\nis really, &#8220;soma&#8221;,<br \/>\nsentient,<br \/>\nresonant in the field of all minds,<br \/>\nresponsive,<br \/>\ninitiatory,<br \/>\nremembering,<br \/>\nintelligent,<br \/>\nchanging,<br \/>\naccelerating the process of change<br \/>\noccurring in and as the Field of All Possibility.<\/p>\n<p>Physiology resonates and physically manifests<br \/>\nthe ways of mind.<\/p>\n<p>The ways of mind<br \/>\nare not &#8220;the&#8221; mind,<br \/>\nsince there is no fixed identity<br \/>\nno permanent identity<br \/>\nto earn the appelation, &#8220;the&#8221;<br \/>\n(though personal names imply such a permanent identity).<\/p>\n<p>There is only a persisting and yet changing process<br \/>\nconstantly inscribing upon memory<br \/>\nendless moments of time<br \/>\nconnected by memory<br \/>\nor disconnected in amnesia.<\/p>\n<p>The amnesia shows up,<br \/>\nsomatically,<\/p>\n<p>as awkwardness<br \/>\nboth in terms of clumsiness of movement<br \/>\nand in terms of dis-ease or disgrace,<br \/>\nas discontinuity of feeling during movement<br \/>\nas lack of sensibility during action,<br \/>\nof which we are unaware, oblivious,<br \/>\nsince a long-term lack of sensation goes unnoticed<\/p>\n<p>as lack of fluidity,<br \/>\na kind of stodginess in certain movements, such as walking<br \/>\nslowed walking or unsteady walking<\/p>\n<p>as dis-comfort in certain positions<\/p>\n<p>as somewhat crude control of movements,<br \/>\nso that they&#8217;re &#8220;all on&#8221; or &#8220;all off&#8221;,<br \/>\nbut not so well controlled in &#8220;the in-between&#8221;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>This is part of clumsiness.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p>Elite athletes excel in &#8220;the in-between&#8221; between &#8220;all on&#8221; and &#8220;all off&#8221;,<br \/>\nand not just in &#8220;the extremes&#8221; of high performance<br \/>\nand so exhibit uncommon grace.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>The amnesia, the obliviousness<br \/>\nshows up as habits of behavior and memory<br \/>\nwhich we take to be ourselves<br \/>\nand which others recognize as ourselves<\/p>\n<p>all lumped into one as our way of moving<br \/>\nand of going into and coming out of rest,<\/p>\n<p>Psychology and the physiology are the same one<br \/>\nperceived from two different viewpoints.<\/p>\n<p>Psychology is the experience of physiology<br \/>\nand<br \/>\nphysiology is the play of psychology as living matter.<\/p>\n<p>Experiential memory holds them as one.<br \/>\nConceptual memory holds then as two.<\/p>\n<p>We, somas, are the musical instruments that play<br \/>\nthe Music of the Spheres,<br \/>\nthe &#8220;music&#8221; (and noise) of the centers of influence we all are<br \/>\nresonant fields apparently centered as &#8220;selves&#8221;<br \/>\nlocated by others<br \/>\nand experienced by ourselves<br \/>\nas centers of memory<\/p>\n<p>memory, embodied physiologically<br \/>\nmemory, resonant with the Field of All Minds<br \/>\nthe Field of All Possibilities<br \/>\never-changing<br \/>\never appearing to persist as a center-self<br \/>\na resonant field of mind<br \/>\ntransforming physiologically and psychologically<br \/>\nas changes of our level of rest or activity<br \/>\nas changes of our state of attention,<br \/>\nas changes of our muscular activity<br \/>\nof our neurology,<br \/>\nas hormonal changes<br \/>\nand changes of our blood pressure and breathing rate.<\/p>\n<p>Thought is the flickering of attention among memory patterns<br \/>\namong arousal states<br \/>\ninscribed upon memory<br \/>\nas things sensed<br \/>\nthings felt<br \/>\nand impulses to act or react<br \/>\nto feel or not to feel,<br \/>\nall inscribed upon memory<br \/>\nwith gaps of amnesia,<br \/>\nthings forgotten<\/p>\n<p>like a Hitchcock tale.<\/p>\n<p>Emotion is the tension set within which thoughts occur.<\/p>\n<p>Emotion gathers related, mutually triggering memories<br \/>\ntogether<\/p>\n<p>into a state of suspense<\/p>\n<p>that may persist or that may change<br \/>\nover short or very long periods of time.<\/p>\n<p>The physiology gets stabilized at a certain pattern of homeostasis<br \/>\nor &#8220;best approximation of &#8216;home'&#8221;<br \/>\nwhich, as we know<br \/>\nhas gaps and deviations<\/p>\n<p>both physiologically (as perceived from one perspective)<br \/>\nand psychologically (as apperceived from another).<\/p>\n<p>The kicker is that apperception (the perception of self-soma by self-soma)<br \/>\nhas amnesias and unawakened potentials<br \/>\nand so soma-self&#8217;s image<br \/>\nis subject to<br \/>\n&#8220;The &#8216;not-knowing&#8221; of all I never knew I didn&#8217;t know.&#8221; (oblivious ignorance)<br \/>\nand<br \/>\n&#8220;All the &#8216;knowing&#8217; that I&#8217;ve forgotten that I know, that&#8217;s still running the show.&#8221; (amnesia and habit)<br \/>\n&#8212; in other words,<br \/>\nincomplete and inconclusive<br \/>\nbeset by seemingly hidden influences,<br \/>\nbut seeming, because of memory,<br \/>\nto be complete and conclusive,<br \/>\npresent as physiological states of readiness<br \/>\nto take actions remembered<br \/>\ntoward different things as they are happening, now.<\/p>\n<p>And they call that maturity.<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s incomplete.<\/p>\n<p>The perspective of &#8220;the other&#8221;, another person,<br \/>\nanother viewpoint toward oneself that one is capable of taking in,<br \/>\nmay reveal the hidden memories and blind spots<br \/>\nthat have been running the show from behind the scenes.<\/p>\n<p>And the two somatic perspectives,<br \/>\nfrom outside<br \/>\nand<br \/>\nfrom within<br \/>\ngive a more complete view,<br \/>\nbut still,<br \/>\nalways,<br \/>\nincomplete and inconclusive<br \/>\nsubject to<br \/>\n&#8220;The &#8216;not-knowing&#8221; of all I never knew I didn&#8217;t know.&#8221; (oblivious ignorance)<br \/>\nand<br \/>\n&#8220;All the &#8216;knowing&#8217; that I&#8217;ve forgotten that I know, that&#8217;s still running the show.&#8221;
